We will retrace the steps of our modern world by focusing on the life and times of the thinkers who assisted in its construction, including the predominant thoughts and events that defined them.

  3. What did Karl Marx say about Louis Bonaparte? 
  4. Who murdered Jean Jaurès? 
  5. Which USA: John Rawls, William Buckley, or Christopher Lasch?

Objectifs pédagogiques

By the end of the semester, you will have:

  • Developed your skills as a historian, a philosopher and a political theorist.
  • Discussed and shared your opinions on these topics in English in a stimulating environment.

    Skills focus

    • Practice your reading and listening skills on a number of abstract ideas and concepts. 
    • Develop your skills as a historian, a philosopher and a political theorist. 
    • Discuss and share your opinions on these topics in English in a stimulating environment. 

    Activities

    • We will look at source material together in class and you will have to respond accordingly. 
    • Read and listen to introductory material before the class, which will all be available on Moodle. 

    Assessment

    • The final assessments will be based on the presentation of a final podcast that deals with a related topic of your choosing. There will also be a bonus or malus point (-1, 0 or +1) for your contributions in class and various audio-based tasks.
